Doors will reopen on Friday, June 24th, with new programming in the Knights Bar.
WILMINGTON, DE – July 21, 2020 – Wilmington-based developer The Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG) announced today that The Queen Theater will re-open this week, introducing the new Knights Bar. Located just off the main entrance to the right, the Knights Bar is a $400,000 new bar and terrace, with ample outdoor space to meet today’s socially distant seating requirements. The bar currently has an extensive beverage menu and will offer food in the near future.
Eager for live music to return to Market Street, the opening of the Knights Bar will allow the Queen to join the efforts of Curbside Wilmington this summer to help Downtown businesses bounce back by introducing nightly programming and open air seating, open 5 PM to close Wednesday through Saturday.
The Knights Bar will kick off this new live music series this Friday, July 24th, with Delaware-based electronic musician No Sir E from 8:30 – 11 PM. Local favorites Richard Raw & DJ Mike Nite will follow on Saturday night with a curation of old school hip hop hits from 8 – 10 PM.
In an additional effort to increase the amount of programming at The Queen, and to further its position as the clubhouse for Delaware’s music community, Buccini/Pollin’s growing operations platform will take an active role in the day to day management of the venue. BPG will utilize its local knowledge to manage daily operations and increase collaborations with area musicians, while Live Nation will continue to be in involved in bringing world-class entertainment to The Queen, ultimately maximizing the strengths of both organizations.
Buccini/Pollin will further refine the operating model at The Queen so that it is unique to Wilmington. Taking full advantage of the venue’s variety of performance spaces, like the Knights Bar, will bring opportunity to local entertainers like never before. By working with closely with organizations such as the Light Up The Queen Foundation and Gable Music Ventures, BPG will ensure that The Queen truly serves as a community clubhouse.
“Now more than ever, the City of Wilmington needs a place for people of all backgrounds to come together,” said Chris Buccini, Co-President of The Buccini/Pollin Group. “There is no better way to unite our community than through music, and we are proud to have the ability to do so at The Queen.”
Buccini/Pollin maintains an active relationship with Live Nation, both in Wilmington and Pittsburgh, where they are partnering to build a new $50 million venue. Live Nation believes live music is vital to the art and culture of our cities and remains committed to nurturing the music scene here in Wilmington.
“Live Nation looks forwards to our continued relationship with The Queen in Wilmington, DE and our growing partnership with The Buccini/Pollin Group,” said Ron Benson, President of House of Blues Entertainment for Live Nation. “The Queen is truly the jewel of Delaware, and we are excited for it to progress as the community clubhouse for the region’s music scene.”
Under this improved structure, BPG will welcome new leadership to the onsite operations team with extensive industry expertise. Sam Blumin joins The Queen as General Manager with previous experience at Live Nation in Los Angeles. Noah Padawer-Curry will serve as The Queen’s first ever dedicated booking agent specific to the venue, with a goal of programming more local talent throughout the week. The Queen will retain as many staff as possible to ensure a seamless guest experience during this transition period, including Head of Private Events Alison Weir. Although the future of larger scale events is uncertain, BPG is using this time to explore increasing the theater capacity by 30% in order to attract more well-knowns acts and larger conferences when the time comes.
BPG has expanded its operating portfolio after the success of the 76ers Fieldhouse to include neighboring establishment such as Makers Alley, DE.CO, Constitution Yards, I.M. Coffee, and Starbucks (627 N Market & 329 Justison St). Buccini/Pollin is confident this effort to localize operations at The Queen will fulfill its longtime mission cultivating a diverse entertainment venue that establishes Wilmington as a regional music destination, while creating opportunity and sense of community for the people of Wilmington.
