Buccini Pollin Group’s (BPG) BPG U internship program continues to be a valuable platform for aspiring young professionals in Delaware, providing them with hands-on experience in the dynamic world of real estate development. Through a partnership with Yes, We Tech!, this 7-week paid program offers rising high school seniors the opportunity to explore various aspects of the industry and gain invaluable insights directly from BPG executives.
These ambitious students were placed with a variety of employers in Wilmington, including Rodel, Tech Council of Delaware, Barclays, Code Differently, WSFS Bank, CSC, Buccini Pollin Group, Delmarva Power, CSC, and Richards Layton & Finger.
This year, BPG U welcomed eight rising seniors from Alexis I. DuPont High School, Charter School of Wilmington, Newark High School, Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Tech High School, Odyssey Charter School, Christiana High School, and St. Georges High School. The program’s curriculum is designed to provide the selected group of Delaware seniors with a comprehensive overview of the real estate development process, from initial concept to project completion and ongoing operations.
Throughout the 7-week paid program, the BPG U Interns gained invaluable exposure to the real estate industry. They engaged with various departments at BPG, including C-level executives, construction, development, marketing, asset management, and property management, providing them with a thorough understanding of the development process from conception to completion. Unique supplemental experiences included a lunch & learn with Mayor Purzycki where the students engaged in thoughtful conversations on the future of Wilmington. Our interns also had an inspiring meeting with Logan Herring, CEO of the WRK Group, a collective of three nonprofits working together to revitalize the Riverside and Northeast Wilmington neighborhoods by creating pathways out of poverty for the lowest-income residents.
The BPG U internship program allows students to explore further three distinct career paths within the real estate development industry: Marketing & Design, Construction & Property Management, and Finance & Asset Management. After viewing presentations on each field, students were able to choose the internship that most interested them. During the program’s final weeks, students gained hands-on experience in their chosen field, from creating marketing materials to understanding construction processes and financial analysis. Additionally, throughout their chosen pathway, students worked diligently on their final presentations, culminating in a showcase of their individual experiences and projects.
To celebrate the completion of our students’ thought provoking work throughout the program, each intern presented their BPG U experience and internship projects. In attendance were BPG Founders Rob and Chris Buccini, along with BPG executives, associates, and our partners at Yes! We Tech.
Following the graduation ceremony, many students expressed their plans to further their education and apply the valuable skills they acquired during the BPG U internship program, feeling confident in their ability to leverage their newfound knowledge and experiences in their future careers.
BPG U is an associate-led youth development initiative conceived to address inequalities within our community and to increase diversity in the industry. BPG is proud to continue to host this program annually.
